Photographer Captures Iconic ET Scene After Two Years of Effort
A dedicated photographer, Michael Meighan, is overjoyed after successfully recreating a memorable scene from the beloved movie ET. This ambitious project, which Meighan embarked on with his friend Nathan Edwards, required meticulous planning and perseverance. The goal was to replicate the iconic moment when Elliott's BMX, with ET riding in the basket, flies past the Moon.
The duo faced numerous challenges, including limited opportunities due to the 12 full Moons in a typical year and unpredictable weather conditions. They had to carefully plan their positions, considering the Moon's expected location. Finally, during the first full Moon of the year, the stars aligned, and they found the perfect moment to capture.
Edwards, a plasterer, positioned himself on Eglwysilan Mountain in Rhondda Cynon Taf, pushing his bike uphill for five minutes to get into the desired spot. Meighan, meanwhile, watched through his viewfinder from a distance of 1.4 miles away in Treforest, Pontypridd, maintaining contact with Edwards via phone. This unique setup attracted curious neighbors, who witnessed the dedication of the pair.
Meighan, a 39-year-old care support worker from Cardiff, described the experience, "They came out wondering what was happening when they saw a man with a huge camera lens next to their house." Edwards, 33, from Cwmbran, Torfaen, crafted a creative setup, using a plastic wash bowl and a teddy bear wrapped in a blanket to mimic ET on his bike.
The photographer expressed his gratitude for Edwards' unwavering commitment, saying, "He's a fantastic person, a fantastic friend, and without him, this wouldn't have been possible." The pair's enthusiasm and dedication paid off, resulting in a stunning recreation that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on movie enthusiasts.
