Emran Yousufi's cousin, Abel Mohammadi, and their friend, Ali Abdullah, recount a peaceful Saturday evening that took a dark turn. A group of individuals, masked and with loud music, entered the Tim Hortons, seeking out Mohammadi. What followed was a violent confrontation that ended with Yousufi's life being taken.
"The first punch was aimed at me, and it caught my nose. Blood started flowing immediately," Mohammadi recalls.
The fight escalated quickly, with one of the assailants brandishing a baton and attempting to strike Mohammadi. Yousufi, in a brave act of protection, stepped in to defend his cousin, but the situation turned deadly when a knife was drawn and Yousufi was stabbed.
A Cousin's Bravery
In the aftermath, Mohammadi reflects on the courage and loyalty shown by his cousin.
"I couldn't help but think, what a remarkable cousin I have. He didn't hesitate to step up and protect me, even though he didn't know these people. He put himself in harm's way to keep me safe," Mohammadi shares.

Durham Regional Police have arrested a 16-year-old from Brampton and charged him with second-degree murder. Mohammadi and Abdullah, still shaken by the experience, are calling for justice and for the accused to be tried as an adult. "We've all found stability and happiness here, and then this incident happened. It's left everyone feeling sad and scared," Mohammadi expresses.
